Tony's Driving School - The Driving Tests
The Theory Test
The theory test is made up of two parts; a multiple choice section and a Hazard Perception test. The multiple choice part is delivered using a touch screen computer and mouse. The theory test is a 50-question multiple-choice test.
To pass you must answer 43 or more questions correctly within 57 minutes. Questions are chosen at random from a bank of over 1,200 questions, and you answer by touching the screen. During the test you have the option to skip questions and return to them later.
The hazard perception test records your responses to developing hazards through the use of a computer mouse. Immediately after your theory test, you’ll watch a series of 14 one-minute video clips, each showing potential hazards involving road conditions, pedestrians or road users.
There are 15 hazards to identify and you can score up to 5 points on each one, depending on how quickly you identify them. You need to score 44 out of 75 to pass.
You’ll need to pass both parts to successfully complete your theory test. If you pass one part & fail the other, you’ll fail the whole test, & will have to re-take both parts.

The Practical Driving Test
The Practical test is about you showing the DSA examiner that you’re safe and confident on the roads.
Firstly the examiner will test your eyesight by asking you to read a number plate about 20.5 meters away. They will then ask you two questions from the,
Show me Tell me question bank
Next comes the driving part of the test. This lasts around 40 minutes and is conducted by a DSA examiner. It’s very straight forward the examiner will tell you where to drive and what to do.
The test will include two maneuvers, either reverse parking, reversing into a side road, turning in the road or reversing into a bay, and of course driving on normal roads. All this needs to be done safely and considerately and in accordance with the Highway Code.
